Travel Blogs

19 Jan

Back when I lived/worked in Stockton Heath (at least three years ago) and was out and about every day, I had a fair bit to write about. My thoughts turned to starting my own travel blog, in similar fashion to 73 bus blog (about the infamous Routemaster service in London) or the later 43 blog (written by a man who travelled on the Stagecoach service up the Wilmslow Road). It would have been somewhere to hang the dreamy concotions thought up whilst on the bus up the Causeway.

I was going to name it “At sixes and sevens”, after the bus route I often used – geddit??? Only I didn’t end up putting the plan into practice, for a number of reasons:

  • The name “At sixes and sevens” may have ended up having a negative connotation about public transport generally
  • The name may have inspired me to write grumpy posts about public transport, which I didn’t want to do (all the time)
  • The name wouldn’t have been completely accurate, as often I caught a 5, 8 or 44 instead
  • I’ve never been a whole-hearted blogger, and keeping two blogs seemed like too much work
  • The name “At sixes and sevens” was just a terrible pun that didn’t really deserve a whole blog devoted to it

Having said that, I’ve decided to write a few posts over coming weeks about my journey to work: the characters, the thrills and spills, the excitement, the drama, etc. Trains, planes and automobiles. And buses. And cable-driven rapid transit systems.

Incidentally, if anyone can recommend any good commuter blogs to read, please feel free to leave a comment.

Hello James,The boys in blue were very lucky on Sunday. If it wasn’t for Titus Shambles, you would have got battered!

The more I watch that goal, the more unreal it becomes. Bruce seems to be doing a good job, and I hope we can put those three points towards giving Liverpool a run for their money again this year 😉
