Back in Blighty

23 Mar

I have been back home since Wednesday, more or less. Despite all the good advice given out to me about attempting to see out the rest of the day without resorting to nappery, it was indeed the Land of Nod to which I succumbed. Consequently I seem to be ill at ease with GMT, with late nights and long lie-ins. I am sure I will post some amusing anecdotes or deep insightful thoughts about the holiday over the next week or so, but for now my thanks to our hosts and guides, Jess and Robert. Totally amazing.

What’s happened in Burnage since I was away? Well, the Co-op next door is no more. Something was brewing before we left, but it was strange to come back and see the store still open but bereft of branding. It appears to be in private hands now, with all-new staff and fewer product lines. Thanks for that, Tesco. Thankfully, I also appear to have missed a weekend-long water shortage in the block of flats I live in, with water bowsers and everything. Ooops.

I want to be on holiday still, but work recommences on Tuesday – no fair. Wasn’t it ever thus? Only this time it’s worse, as I’ve had my first two week holiday for about ten years, the ill-fated strawberry picking expedition to Denmark. Mustn’t leave it so long next time.
